Odisha STA Issues Over 10,000 e-Challans in One-Day Road Safety Drive

Bhubaneswar, Sept. 9 (UDN): The Odisha State Transport Authority (STA) launched a major enforcement drive against traffic rule violations, issuing 10,207 e-challans and seizing 20 vehicles in a single day as part of its intensified road safety campaign.

According to official data, the crackdown was carried out on September 7 across the state to improve compliance with traffic regulations and curb accident risks caused by reckless driving.

Helmet Violations Top the List

Riding without a helmet accounted for the highest number of violations, with 4,603 e-challans issued during the drive. Authorities also penalised 813 motorists for overspeeding, 475 for driving without valid insurance, and 229 for triple riding.

Officials said the special enforcement campaign forms part of the STA’s ongoing efforts to strengthen road safety through stricter monitoring and action against habitual offenders.

Appeal to Motorists

The transport authority has urged commuters to follow traffic rules, wear protective gear, and ensure their vehicle documents are valid while on the road.

The STA reiterated that sustained enforcement and public cooperation remain key to reducing road accidents and making Odisha’s roads safer for all.
