Bhubaneswar, Sept 16 [UDN}:The Odisha Higher Education Department is fully prepared to conduct student union elections across colleges and higher educational institutions in the state, according to Higher Education Minister Suryabanshi Suraj.
Speaking on the issue, the minister said that the department has already made the necessary preparations and is ready to proceed whenever a decision is taken by the government and the party’s top leadership.
However, the minister indicated that the exact timing and formal announcement of the elections would depend on a decision at the highest level. “The department is prepared. At the appropriate time, we will make the appropriate announcement based on the decision of the top leadership,” Suraj said.
The statement has renewed expectations among students and student organisations regarding the possible revival of regular student union elections in colleges and universities. Student elections have traditionally played an important role in campus democracy, providing students with an opportunity to elect representatives and raise issues concerning academics, campus facilities and student welfare.
With the Higher Education Department now stating that it is ready, attention is focused on when the government will officially announce the election schedule and the procedures to be followed by educational institutions across Odisha.
