Bhubaneswar, Sept 16 [UDN}:The Odisha government is set to bring a major change in the state’s school education and examination system by merging the existing separate boards for secondary and higher secondary education into a single board.
According to Mass Education Secretary N. Tirumala Naik, the state government has decided that students of Class 10 and Class 12 will no longer come under separate examination boards. Instead, a unified board will function for both levels, aimed at streamlining the examination process and bringing greater coordination between secondary and higher secondary education.
The important announcement was made during a press conference, where the Mass Education Secretary provided details of the proposed reform. At present, the Board of Secondary Education (BSE), Odisha, conducts examinations for secondary-level students, while the Council of Higher Secondary Education (CHSE), Odisha, is responsible for higher secondary examinations.
Under the proposed system, these two separate boards will no longer function independently. A single unified board will handle the academic and examination-related responsibilities for both Class 10 and Class 12 students.
The state government believes that the reform will help improve the overall education system, simplify examination management and reduce administrative complications. It is also expected to create greater uniformity in the examination process, while making coordination between the secondary and higher secondary levels more efficient.
The decision is being viewed as a significant step towards modernising Odisha’s education administration and making the examination system more streamlined and student-friendly. Further details regarding the structure, functioning, implementation process and timeline of the new unified board are expected to be announced by the government.
