Malkangiri , Sept 16 [UDN}: In a significant move aimed at strengthening healthcare services across Malkangiri district, MLA Narsingh Madkami held discussions with Odisha Health Minister Dr. Mukesh Mahaling regarding the urgent need to improve medical facilities and ensure better access to healthcare for people in remote and tribal areas of the district.
During the discussion, the MLA highlighted several longstanding healthcare requirements, including the shortage of doctors and the need to upgrade diagnostic facilities at the district headquarters hospital. The Health Minister reportedly assured that steps would be taken for the early appointment of doctors to address manpower shortages and improve the availability of medical services.
A major focus of the discussion was the introduction of modern diagnostic facilities at the Malkangiri District Headquarters Hospital. The proposed facilities include ultrasound services and digital X-ray, which are expected to significantly improve the hospital’s diagnostic capabilities and reduce the need for patients to travel outside the district for essential tests.
The expansion of healthcare infrastructure at the grassroots level was also discussed. Particular emphasis was placed on establishing a dialysis centre at the Kalimela Community Health Centre (CHC), which could provide considerable relief to kidney patients who currently face difficulties accessing regular dialysis services.
The MLA also stressed the importance of ensuring regular and uninterrupted healthcare services at healthcare institutions in Padia, Khairput, Mathili and Chitrakonda. Given the geographical challenges and the large number of people living in remote areas, strengthening healthcare facilities in these blocks remains crucial for providing timely treatment and reducing the burden on the district headquarters hospital.
The discussion reflects efforts to improve both medical manpower and healthcare infrastructure in Malkangiri. The proposed recruitment of doctors, installation of modern diagnostic equipment and expansion of specialised services such as dialysis are expected to strengthen the district’s healthcare network and make essential medical services more accessible to residents, particularly those living in remote and underserved areas.
