Gurupalli , Nov 3 (UDN): In view of the possibility of an approaching cyclone and the forecast of adverse weather conditions, the Regional Transport Office (RTO), Ganjam, has organised a special road safety awareness programme for drivers to ensure safe and secure road travel during the period of inclement weather.
The awareness programme was conducted at the Gurupalli Toll Plaza in Khallikote in collaboration with the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI). During the programme, vehicle drivers were sensitised about the potential risks associated with driving during adverse weather conditions, particularly in view of the possible cyclone and its expected impact on road transportation.
As part of the initiative, drivers were given advance safety instructions and cautioned to remain alert while travelling during periods of heavy rainfall, strong winds, reduced visibility and other challenging weather conditions. They were also advised to avoid unnecessary travel during severe weather, maintain safe distances between vehicles, drive at controlled speeds and exercise additional caution while using highways.
The authorities emphasised that road safety becomes particularly important during natural disasters and extreme weather conditions. Drivers and passengers were urged to remain vigilant, follow official weather and traffic advisories, strictly adhere to road safety regulations and cooperate with the administration to prevent road accidents and other untoward incidents.
The initiative by RTO Ganjam, in association with NHAI, aims to strengthen public awareness and ensure the safety of motorists and passengers amid the possibility of adverse weather conditions. All vehicle drivers and commuters have been requested to prioritise safety, follow traffic rules and take necessary precautions to make their journeys safe and hassle-free.
