ICAR-CIFA Hosts Kisan Mela and Exhibition on Freshwater Aquaculture

30th January 2025: The ICAR-Central Institute of Freshwater Aquaculture (CIFA) recently held a Kisan Mela and exhibition focused on freshwater aquaculture at Kausalyaganga, Bhubaneswar. The event saw participation from more than 460 farmers and farm women representing districts such as Angul, Bhadrak, Dhenkanal, Jagatsinghpur, Khurda, and Puri.

Swami Atmaprabhananda, Secretary of the Ramakrishna Mission, Bhubaneswar, inaugurated the event. He praised ICAR-CIFA for its efforts in technology transfer and emphasized the importance of such initiatives in promoting agricultural development. Notable attendees included Arjamadutta Sarangi, Director of ICAR-IIWM, Prasannajit Mishra, Dean of Extension Education at OUAT, and Bibudha Parasar, Professor at SOA.

During his address, PK Sahoo, Director of ICAR-CIFA, underscored the role of scientific fish farming in driving economic empowerment, particularly for marginalized communities. He shared that in 2024, the institute engaged over 3,000 farm families across eight states through various awareness programs, training sessions, and technology transfer initiatives.

The mela featured a range of demonstrations on advanced techniques like scientific carp culture, ornamental fish farming, carp seed rearing, catfish rearing, and integrated fish farming. The exhibition also included eight organizations from agriculture and allied sectors, showcasing a variety of products, technologies, and resources aimed at supporting farmers in their aquaculture practices.
