6th March 2025: The BSE Sensex rose by 740 points, while the Nifty ended its 10-day losing streak on Wednesday, driven by strong global market trends and value buying in utilities and power stocks.

The Sensex closed at 73,730.23, up by 740.30 points or 1.01%, hitting an intra-day high of 73,933.80. The Nifty surged 254.65 points, or 1.15%, to finish at 22,337.30, with an intra-day high of 22,394.90.

Broader indices also experienced positive movement, with the BSE smallcap index rising 2.80% and the midcap index gaining 2.66%. The total market capitalization of BSE-listed firms increased by ₹7.97 lakh crore, reaching ₹393.04 lakh crore (USD 4.51 trillion).

Stocks such as Adani Ports, Tata Steel, Power Grid, and NTPC were among the top gainers. In contrast, Bajaj Finance, IndusInd Bank, and HDFC Bank faced losses.

Experts noted that global developments, including talks of potential tariff reductions by the U.S., alongside favorable domestic data, such as the February PMI index, contributed to the market rebound. Sectoral indices saw broad-based gains, particularly in utilities, power, and metal sectors.
