New Delhi, May 31: In a major decision promoting fairness in medical entrance testing, the postgraduate medical entrance exam (NEET-PG 2025), scheduled for June 15, will now be held in a single shift across India.
The change comes after concerns were raised about the exam being conducted in two shifts, which could result in discrepancies due to differing levels of question difficulty. A judicial bench emphasized that uniformity in testing is essential, noting that no two papers can be truly identical in complexity.
Although normalization techniques are sometimes applied to balance such differences, the court made it clear that these methods should not be used routinely, but rather only in exceptional cases.
With 2.42 lakh candidates registered and the test being conducted nationwide, the bench observed that India has enough technological and logistical capability to conduct the exam in a single session. Authorities have been directed to maintain strict transparency and identify secure centers for smooth conduct of the examination.
This move is expected to ensure equal opportunity and integrity in one of the country’s most competitive medical entrance exams.
