New Delhi, November 20: In response to alarming air pollution levels, the Delhi government has instructed 50% of its employees to work from home. The move aims to reduce the city’s pollution, which has escalated to hazardous levels in recent days.

Delhi’s Environment Minister, Gopal Rai, announced the directive, stating that reducing office attendance will help minimize pollution. A meeting with officials from the Secretariat is scheduled to ensure effective implementation of the plan. On Wednesday, the city’s air quality index (AQI) reached a severe level above 500, signaling dangerous pollution.
Delhi’s Lieutenant Governor, V.K. Saxena, also issued similar instructions for government employees, including those in the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD). In addition, Environment Minister Rai has written to the central government, seeking approval for artificial rainfall to mitigate the pollution. He has proposed a meeting with experts from IIT Kanpur and other central agencies to explore this solution.
Tackling Delhi’s Pollution Crisis
With air pollution worsening in the capital, these measures reflect the urgent need to protect public health and reduce environmental harm. The government’s ongoing efforts highlight the growing concern over Delhi’s air quality, as the city battles severe pollution that affects millions of residents.
