Nabarangpur ,Feb, 12: A district-level skill development training programme for adolescent girls was organised at the Zilla Parishad conference hall under the auspices of the District Social Welfare Department.
The training camp was conducted under the chairpersonship of District Social Welfare Officer Draupadi Kahnra. A total of 85 adolescent girls from across the district—who had dropped out of school or had been prevented from child marriage—participated in the programme. They received detailed training on the benefits of polytechnic education, skill development courses, and the employment opportunities available after completing such training.
The workshop was coordinated by UNICEF District Coordinator Fakir Charan Rout. District Employment Officer Anand Chandra Palai, in his address, cited examples of adolescent girls from Nabarangpur district who had achieved success despite life’s struggles. He stated that skill development training would open new pathways for their future.
In her speech, Women Protection Officer Rama Pattnaik highlighted that in the name of tradition, many parents in the district force adolescent girls into early marriage, compelling them to experience motherhood before reaching maturity. She urged the girls to firmly resist such pressures and strive to become economically self-reliant.
Among others, CDPO of Tentulikhunti Block, Binita Jethi, members of the Women Empowerment Hub Sarita Rani Pani and Sasmita Patra, supervisors and other officials of the District Social Welfare Department also addressed the gathering. They encouraged the participating boys and girls on various aspects of skill development training.
