Malkangiri, March, 12:International Women’s Day was celebrated by women at Balimela N.E.C., Korukonda block. The day, observed every year on March 8 by agreement of the United Nations, focuses on recognizing the rights of women and promoting gender equality.
The celebration emphasizes addressing issues faced by women worldwide, including exploitation, lack of education, poor health, and deprivation of rights. The aim is to bring women into the mainstream of society so that they can live with self-reliance and dignity.
This year, while International Women’s Day was being observed across the globe, in Balimela the event was led by Ward Member Sunita Guru. During the program, Madhumita Gadei spoke about women’s safety and independence, urging that this day should be used to empower women rather than misused.
Jatsna Majumdar administered an oath to all women present, pledging to dedicate some time to help others, participate in the joys and sorrows of everyone, and to celebrate this day every year.
Finally, Lakshmipriya Paikaray, Jatrimayi Swain, Savita Mahanti, and other women celebrated the occasion in a joyful and unique manner by cutting a cake, singing, dancing, and expressing happiness.
