Baripada’s Budhabalanga Riverfront Set for INR 230 Crore Revamp

Baripada, July 7, 2025 – A major riverfront development project is set to reshape the landscape of Budhabalanga River in Baripada, located in Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district. With an estimated budget of ₹230 crore, this ambitious plan will cover nearly 170 acres of land along both banks of the river.

The project will be implemented in two phases. In the first phase, development activities will be carried out on a 4-kilometer stretch upstream on the eastern side of the Astia bridge. The second phase will extend similar development over a 4-kilometer downstream section on the western bank.

This large-scale initiative is aimed at promoting urban beautification, improving flood management, and enhancing drinking water supply and sanitation infrastructure. It is also expected to significantly boost eco-tourism, provide a platform for cultural and recreational activities, and contribute to the local economy through job creation and increased tourism footfall.

In addition, the project emphasizes environmental sustainability, aiming to protect the natural habitat along the river while making it more accessible and attractive to both residents and visitors.

Local officials and citizens have welcomed the initiative, expressing optimism that it will bring a new identity to Baripada and strengthen the region’s infrastructure and tourism appeal.
