Rayagada, 29th Aug 2025: Growing resentment is being witnessed among Rayagada town residents over the deplorable condition of the overbridge. To address the matter, a BJP delegation met Chief Engineer of the National Highways Department, Naveen Kumar Patel, in Bhubaneswar and apprised him of the bridge’s worsening state.
According to BJP MP candidate Kaliram Majhi, the meeting lasted for about an hour. He further informed that a company from Himachal Pradesh has already been selected in the tender process to carry out the repair work of the bridge, and the work will begin after the rainy season ends.
During the discussion with the Chief Engineer, Koraput MLA Raghuram Machh, Additional Chief Engineer Nalini Rani Sabar, and Sunabeda Executive Engineer Soumarjini Sethi were also present.
Intellectuals, political leaders, various organizations, journalists, and lawyers of Rayagada town have been raising their voice for permanent repair of the bridge. However, locals allege that whenever there is public agitation over the bridge’s condition, the National Highways Authority (NHAI) carries out only superficial repairs in the name of maintenance, just to pacify public anger, and then sits idle without taking up permanent solutions.
