15th February 2025: The Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) launched its ‘Zero-Waste Office’ initiative on February 14, aiming to set a model for sustainable practices. The campaign encourages BMC staff and visitors to follow eco-friendly practices, such as avoiding plastic bags, minimizing food waste, using reusable bottles, and reducing paper consumption.
Strict monitoring will ensure waste management practices are followed, and a Zero-Waste Audit will be conducted regularly. Single-use plastics are banned in and around the office, and staff are encouraged to reduce food waste and properly dispose of disposables.
BMC Commissioner Rajesh Prabhakar Patil highlighted that the zero-waste approach is easy to implement and improves both personal and community well-being. This initiative follows the success of the ‘Zero Waste Schools’ program in local schools.
