BMC Partners with IIT Roorkee for Stormwater Management Plan

Bhubaneswar, Feb 19: The Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with IIT Roorkee to address urban flooding and waterlogging in the city. This collaboration aims to develop a climate-resilient and sustainable drainage system as part of the Vision 2050 initiative.

The plan includes preparing a detailed project report (DPR) at a cost of ₹8.04 crore to assess and improve the city’s current drainage system. Experts from IIT Roorkee will use data-driven strategies to propose long-term solutions, considering factors like population growth, land use, and climate projections.

Urban Development Minister Krushna Chandra Mahapatra emphasized the need for modern drainage infrastructure to ensure Bhubaneswar’s resilience against flooding as it continues to grow. The new plan aims to provide a comprehensive solution for stormwater management, addressing both short- and long-term challenges.
