Boost for Social Justice: 11.25percentQuota Introduced for Backward Classes in Professional Courses

Bhubaneswar,April 10:The state government has decided to implement reservation for students belonging to Scheduled Tribes (ST), Scheduled Castes (SC), and Socially and Educationally Backward Classes (SEBC) in admissions to medical, engineering, and other higher and technical education courses from the current academic year.
As per the new policy, reservation has been increased to:
22.5percent for ST students (earlier 12percent)
16.25percent for SC students (earlier 8percent)
11.25percent for SEBC students
The state cabinet has approved this proposal of the department concerned with the development of ST and SC communities.
In terms of seats:
In MBBS courses, 544 seats for ST, 392 seats for SC, and 271 seats for SEBC have been reserved.
In engineering courses, 10,030 seats for ST, 7,244 seats for SC, and 5,015 seats for SEBC have been reserved.
After the cabinet meeting, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi stated that this reservation system will be applicable to all universities in the state and their affiliated colleges.
