Borigumma Strike Gains Political Support Amid NAC Status Demand

Jeypore, 23rd Aug 2025:  The state government recently announced 12 new Notified Area Councils (NACs). However, Borigumma has been excluded from the list, despite its residents demanding NAC recognition for many years.

During the previous BJD government, an official announcement was made to grant NAC status to Borigumma. But after the change of government, although 12 NACs were declared, Borigumma was left out.

Agitated over this, the people of Borigumma have intensified their protest. Today, residents called for a 12-hour shutdown from 6 AM to 6 PM demanding immediate recognition of Borigumma as an NAC. Both BJD and Congress have extended their support to this bandh.

Borigumma block is known as the largest block in Odisha, with over 32 panchayats and about 18,000 voters in Borigumma town alone. Local people have expressed deep dissatisfaction over the state government’s decision not to include Borigumma in the latest NAC list.

During the bandh, apart from essential services, all shops, markets, and vehicular movement remained closed.
