New Delhi, Aug. 2 (UDN): The Central Government has approved an advance financial assistance package of ₹2,117.85 crore for seven flood-affected states to support relief, rescue and rehabilitation efforts during the ongoing southwest monsoon.

Among the beneficiaries, Odisha has been allocated ₹500 crore as the second instalment under the State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF) for the 2026-27 financial year, reaffirming the Centre’s commitment to strengthening the state’s disaster management response.
In a statement, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) said the Union Government has been maintaining close coordination with states facing flood-related emergencies and has extended all possible assistance, including the deployment of National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams and logistical support from the Ministry of Defence wherever necessary.
Besides Odisha, the Centre released financial assistance to six other states. Gujarat and Maharashtra have each been sanctioned ₹500 crore, Assam ₹379.35 crore, Himachal Pradesh ₹193.95 crore, Arunachal Pradesh ₹44.55 crore, while Nagaland has also been included in the relief package under the SDRF allocation.
The MHA clarified that Odisha, Himachal Pradesh and Nagaland have received the second instalment of SDRF assistance for the current financial year. Meanwhile, Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Gujarat and Maharashtra have been provided with the advance first instalment to help them tackle the ongoing flood situation.
To assess the extent of damage and facilitate additional assistance, the Centre has deployed Inter-Ministerial Central Teams (IMCTs) to the affected regions. Two teams have been sent to Assam in view of the widespread flooding, while one team has been dispatched to Arunachal Pradesh. Another IMCT has also been approved for Nagaland following a request from the state government.
The Ministry stated that the financial assistance is aimed at enabling states to intensify rescue operations, provide immediate relief to affected families and accelerate rehabilitation measures in flood-hit areas. It reiterated that the Centre will continue to monitor the evolving situation and extend further support whenever required to ensure an effective disaster response.
