CM Reviews OMC Projects, Stresses Livelihood & Forest Development

11th July 2025: Hon’ble Chief Minister of Odisha, Shri Mohan Charan Majhi, recently conducted a comprehensive review of various initiatives and developmental activities undertaken by the Odisha Mining Corporation (OMC). The review meeting focused on the sustainable growth of mineral-rich regions and the socio-economic upliftment of local communities.

During the session, the Chief Minister emphasized the need to prioritize the development of forest resources in mining areas while simultaneously implementing livelihood-generating activities. He highlighted the importance of creating long-term benefits for people living in and around mining zones through inclusive, eco-friendly development models.

“It is essential to ensure that the natural wealth of our state, especially in mining belts, contributes meaningfully to the livelihood and well-being of local communities,” the Chief Minister stated.

Key areas of discussion included:

  • Afforestation and environmental restoration in mining-affected regions
  • Skill development programs to empower youth and enhance employment opportunities
  • Community-based projects aimed at improving health, education, and infrastructure
  • Transparent and accountable mining practices that align with environmental norms

Shri Majhi also directed officials to design and implement projects that strike a balance between economic growth and ecological preservation. He stressed that mining activities should not only focus on resource extraction but must also act as a catalyst for local development.

The review comes as part of the government’s broader commitment to ensuring that natural resources are harnessed responsibly, with a strong focus on people-centric governance.

This proactive approach underlines Odisha’s vision of transforming its resource-rich areas into hubs of sustainable development and prosperity, ensuring that the benefits of growth reach every citizen, especially those in the most impacted regions.
