Malkangiri, Mar, 28: On the second day of her visit to Malkangiri district, Ms. Sujata Nayak, Hon’ble Member of the Odisha State Commission for Protection of Child Rights, reviewed various government schemes meant for children and examined the safety measures in place for their protection.
On this occasion, a comprehensive public awareness campaign was launched to make the district free from child marriage.
During her visit, the Member first inspected the MV-03 Anganwadi Centre, where she reviewed the quality of food and other facilities being provided to children. She then visited Tamasa Ashram School and the Government Girls’ High School in Malkangiri.
She emphasized the proper implementation of the Right to Education Act and directed authorities to ensure the safety and security of children.
Addressing the Panchayat-level Child Welfare and Protection Committee meeting held at Tamasa Gram Panchayat, Ms. Nayak stated that child marriage is a blatant violation of child rights and is unacceptable at any level. She stressed that a childhood free from exploitation is the birthright of every child.
She also warned that strict action would be taken against crimes such as employing child labour, forcing children into begging, or using them in drug trafficking and other illegal activities.
The programme was attended by MP’s representative Sanjay Sarkar, District Welfare Officer Srinivas Achari, District Child Development Officer Narayan Das, and District Social Welfare Officer Gauri Nayak, among others, who participated in the discussions.
The meeting expressed hope that with collective cooperation, Malkangiri district would soon become completely free from child marriage.
