Bhubaneswar, 18th Aug 2025: Teachers and employees from various categories staged a massive protest at Gandhi Marg today, raising their voices for a five-point charter of demands. Beginning from Master Canteen, they marched in a rally to Lower PMG, where they held a large gathering and submitted their demands to the government.
Several MLAs and leaders from different organizations addressed the assembly, including BJD legislators Arun Sahoo and Ganeshwar Behera, along with social leaders Sanghamitra Jena, Suresh Panigrahi, Prashant Mishra, Pushpa Dash, Pradeepta Nayak, Naseem Sarkar, and Panchanan Gouda. On behalf of the government, MLAs Babu Singh and Ashrita Pattnayak received the memorandum of demands from the teachers and employees.
The event was organized by the Odisha School and College Teachers and Employees Coordination Committee, which observed the day as Teachers’ Demand Day. Their five major demands include:
1. Restoration of the old pension system instead of the new pension scheme.
2. Grant of six notional increments with seniority benefits for contractual teachers appointed between 2004 and 2013.
3. Extension of job security and pension benefits to all newly grant-in-aid schools and colleges, in line with High Court directions.
4. Raising the retirement age to 62 years.
5. Implementation of uniform service conditions for all categories of teachers and employees.
The protest saw participation from multiple organizations, including OSTA, OLSTA, All Odisha Sanskrit Federation, All Odisha Madrasa Teachers’ Association, Retired Teachers’ and Employees’ Federation, 662/488 College Teachers’ and Employees’ Association, Un-aided Teachers’ Association, and Newly Grant-in-aid Teachers’ Association.
Prominent leaders of the movement such as Convenor Ranjan Kumar Dash, President Sukant Kumar Behera, Akshay Kumar Mishra, Bikram Kumar Das, Pramod Kumar Hota, Harekrushna Panigrahi, Ajay Kumar Pati, Garuda Chandra Sahu, and Ranjan Kumar Panda were present and led the protest.
