Indefinite Strike Announced by Outsourcing Employees Starting February 2

Cuttack, Jan, 21:   Despite the government’s assurances to address the problems of outsourcing employees working in Cuttack district, the promises have not been implemented, leading to growing dissatisfaction. As the government has failed to fulfill their demands, outsourcing employees have decided to launch an indefinite work stoppage strike from February 2.

This decision was announced on Sunday at a press conference held during the general meeting of Cuttack outsourcing employees at Kalinga Guest House, Choudhury Bazar. The information was given by the State Outsourcing Employees’ Federation President Prabhat Mahanti and Cuttack district President Sanjay Pattnaik.
According to them, on March 26 last year, the Odisha Government Outsourcing Employees’ Federation had organized a massive protest at Gandhi Marg in Bhubaneswar. At that time, two senior legislators from the ruling party visited the protest site and assured the federation that its three major demands would soon be approved and discussed in a ministerial-level meeting.
However, even after 10 months have passed, the government has not implemented its assurances.

On the contrary, the federation alleged that instead of addressing the problems of outsourcing employees, the government has begun laying off many outsourcing workers across the state, including in Cuttack district. In addition, salaries have not been paid for long periods, and various other pressures and problems are being imposed on them.

The federation stated that this situation has forced outsourcing employees to take the path of protest.

Among those present at the press conference were Treasurer Bishwajit Nath, Vice President Sarada Prasad Das, General Secretary Arun Samantaray, Joint Secretary Pradeepta Nayak, Organising Secretary Priyakanta Raut, Treasurer Prashanta Ganta Mishra, along with many other office-bearers.
