Thiruvananthapuram, Nov 29: Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Thursday chaired a meeting to accelerate the state’s garbage-free ‘New Kerala’ initiative. The meeting emphasized mobilizing local self-government bodies to lead sanitation efforts across the state.
The focus will be on expediting the work of the Sanitation Mission, the State Pollution Control Board, and the Kerala Solid Waste Management Project. Efforts will be made to resolve delays in technical approvals for waste management technologies developed by private entrepreneurs. Local bodies will be given the responsibility to oversee cleaning activities in their wards, and public-private partnerships for waste management will be encouraged.
Additionally, the state has set a two-week timeline to approve applications related to waste management projects. Plans for the ‘Total Sanitation Declaration’ were also discussed, with a goal of declaring 100 percent greening of neighborhoods and tourism centers by March 30 next year.
