Two tribal women from the Gadba community in Koraput, Sevati Shisha and Mani Kirsani, are showcasing their handcrafted Kering fabric at the INTACH Festival in Delhi. This rare handloom, once on the verge of extinction, is being revived through their skilled weaving, supported by local and government efforts.
Their participation at the event has sparked interest from both domestic and international visitors, highlighting the craft’s cultural significance. The women are using natural dyes from local plants like Jafra, Sindura, and Siuna to create unique, vibrant textiles.
This initiative, in collaboration with INTACH and the Koraput district administration, is not only preserving the Gadba tribe’s traditional craft but also empowering the local community. The recognition at the national festival marks an important step in sustaining Odisha’s indigenous handloom heritage.
