Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh – The highly anticipated Maha Kumbh 2025 is set to commence on January 13 with the first major ritual, ‘Shahi Snan,’ on the auspicious occasion of Paush Purnima at the Sangam, where the Ganga, Yamuna, and mythical Saraswati rivers meet.
This year’s event is particularly momentous, as it takes place once every 12 years, but the celestial alignments are believed to occur once every 144 years, adding an extra layer of significance. The Uttar Pradesh government is expecting a massive turnout, with around 35 crore devotees anticipated to visit Prayagraj over the course of the 45-day festival, running until February 26.
The event’s grandeur is already evident, with more than 25 lakh pilgrims partaking in the holy dip two days ahead of the official start. The 2025 Kumbh promises to combine traditional spirituality with modern advancements, including the introduction of ‘Digi-Kumbh,’ which will integrate Artificial Intelligence (AI) for enhanced security and visitor experience. An AI-powered system will assist in monitoring safety, and a digital tourist map will help manage amenities like cleanliness and toilet facilities.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath stated that this year’s Maha Kumbh would elevate India’s spiritual and cultural traditions globally. Spanning 10,000 acres, the event will feature state-of-the-art infrastructure and is expected to set new benchmarks in cleanliness, safety, and convenience.
The 2025 Kumbh also holds special significance as it is the first since the consecration of Lord Ram in Ayodhya in January 2024. The temporary city, Mahakumbh Nagar, will accommodate up to 1 crore pilgrims at its peak, creating one of the wo
rld’s largest temporary urban spaces.
This year’s Maha Kumbh is not just a religious event but a celebration of India’s cultural unity and its blend of ancient traditions with modern technology.
