Major Boost to Odisha Connectivity: 522 Km Kharagpur–Tangi–Visakhapatnam–Vijayawada High-Speed Corridor Discussed in High-Level Meeting

Bhubaneswar, Mar, 23:In a major development for the state, a long high-speed greenfield corridor is set to connect Kharagpur, Tangi, Visakhapatnam, and Vijayawada.
The corridor will connect 27 towns across 9 districts in Odisha. It will link key mining and industrial regions and improve connectivity to ports and coastal economic zones.
Out of the total stretch, 522 kilometers will pass through Odisha, connecting 27 towns within the state.
A high-level meeting regarding the construction of this high-speed corridor was held on Monday at Lok Seva Bhavan. The meeting was chaired by Sanjay Kumar Singh, Principal Secretary of the Works Department. Discussions were held on the proposed alignment, district connectivity, economic zone linkages, interchanges, and land acquisition for the six-lane greenfield corridor that will pass through Odisha.
The corridor will connect nine districts of Odisha — Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Dhenkanal, Cuttack, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Rayagada, and Koraput — strengthening connectivity to the state’s mineral and industrial belts and giving a new direction to economic development.
The total length of the corridor passing through West Bengal, Jharkhand, Andhra Pradesh, and Odisha will be approximately 930.6 km, of which 522 km will be newly constructed within Odisha. Among the districts, Ganjam will have the longest stretch at 97 km, followed by Dhenkanal with 88 km, Mayurbhanj and Keonjhar with 86 km each, and Rayagada with 53 km.
Senior officials present at the meeting included Works Secretary Er. Lakshmikant Padhi, EIC (Roads & Buildings) Er. Satyabrata Behera, EIC (Rural Works) Er. Dhananjay Nayak, Regional Officer of the Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, Chief Engineer (Planning) Er. Shibnath Dhal, and Chief Engineer (National Highways) Er. Narayan Pati, among others.
