Malkangiri: Eight-Foot Python Rescued, Released into Wild

Malkangiri, 16th Aug 2025:  A python was rescued from MV-11 village under the Malkangiri forest range through the combined efforts of forest officials and a snake rescue team.

Yesterday evening, while it was raining in the Malkangiri area, a poultry farmer in MV-11 village found the python entering his house, apparently to eat his chickens. Upon receiving a phone call about the incident, Malkangiri Divisional Forest Officer Ramesh Chandra Raut directed Forest Guard Manatosh Deng and his team to rush to the spot. At around 8 p.m., they successfully rescued the snake.

Snake handler Dumburu Hantal safely captured the python, secured it in a container, and brought it to the Malkangiri Forest Range Office. After a health check-up at the veterinary hospital, the python will be released into the forest today.

It is estimated that the snake weighs about 20 kg and measures approximately eight feet in length.
