Brahmapur,7th Aug 2025: This year, Friendship Day was observed in a unique manner with the slogan “Let’s Make a Tree Our Friend.”
Green Army and various other volunteer organizations marked the occasion by symbolically adopting a century-old banyan tree near the Ramalingam Temple as their friend.
Key dignitaries present at the event included Brahmapur MP Chandrashekhar Sahu as chief guest, and Brahmapur MLA Bikram Panda, District Collector Bijaya Amruta Kulange, BMC Commissioner Chakravarti Singh Rathore, former MLA Dr. Ramesh Chandra Chyaupatnaik, former Zilla Parishad Chairperson Subash Chandra Maharana, and District Education Officer Sanatan Panda.
District Eco Club Coordinator Dr. Shankar Narayan Behera delivered the welcome address. The ancient banyan tree was offered flowers, sandalwood, and cloth, and tied with a symbolic friendship band.
MP Sahu administered an oath to students and environment lovers to protect trees. Collector Kulange planted a sapling and urged everyone to ensure its care and protection.
Following this, all dignitaries planted trees in the Brahmapur Municipal Corporation premises, and later flagged off an awareness rally that proceeded from the BMC office to the Old Bus Stand.
