Odisha Government Launches Zero Tolerance Days for Road Safety

7th March 2025: Odisha has introduced “Zero Tolerance Days” on Sundays and Wednesdays to improve road safety. This initiative, decided during a meeting of the State Road Safety Council, aims to strictly enforce traffic laws and penalize violators without leniency.

On these days, increased vehicle inspections and heavy fines will target speeding, drunk driving, and helmetless riding. Minister Vibhuti Bhusan Jana emphasized the need for better driving habits to reduce road fatalities, which have been a major concern.

In the past seven months, Odisha reported 3,717 road deaths, with speeding as a leading cause. The state faces a higher fatality rate compared to the national average, making these enforcement measures crucial.
