Odisha Hosts Workshop to Boost Climate Resilience in Fisheries Sector

Bhubaneswar, May 22 – A state-level workshop on ‘Coordination and Convergence in the Implementation of Fisheries Activities’ was held on Wednesday in Bhubaneswar, focusing on strategies to enhance climate resilience in Odisha’s fisheries sector.

Organised by the State Project Management Unit (SPMU) under the Enhancing Climate Resilience of India’s Coastal Communities (ECRICC) project, the workshop was supported by the Green Climate Fund (GCF) and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).

Principal Secretary of the Fisheries and Animal Resources Development (F&ARD) Department, Suresh Kumar Vashishth, inaugurated the event. He underscored the state’s commitment to inclusive and climate-resilient growth in fisheries, while also stressing the importance of institutional coordination, sustainable aquaculture, and ecosystem restoration.

The ECRICC project, aimed at benefiting over 16,000 coastal households by 2027, promotes climate-adaptive practices in both livelihoods and natural resource management.

The event served as a vital platform for policy dialogue, knowledge sharing, and strategic planning to strengthen Odisha’s fisheries sector against climate challenges.
