Bhubaneswar, Nov 28: Odisha has been granted ₹1,265.42 crore under the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMMSY) to strengthen its fisheries sector. With ₹564 crore allocated by the central government, the project will enhance fisheries and aquaculture, while supporting 24,000 traditional fishing families with financial aid during the annual fishing ban.

The project also includes the installation of 93 artificial reefs along Odisha’s coastline to boost marine life and promote sustainable fishing practices. The initiative aligns with Odisha’s ongoing conservation efforts, including fishing bans to protect fish stocks and the endangered Olive Ridley turtles.

With this funding, Odisha is taking crucial steps to ensure a sustainable and thriving fishing industry for its coastal communities.
