Bhubaneswar, June 12: The Odisha government has directed district administrations to ensure that senior citizens and differently-abled beneficiaries who face difficulties visiting panchayat offices receive their pensions directly at home.
Under the Madhubabu Pension Yojana (MBPY), special arrangements are being made for beneficiaries aged 80 and above, and those with 80% or more disability. District Social Security Officers (DSSOs) have been instructed to coordinate this initiative effectively.
Commissioner-cum-Secretary of the Social Security and Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (SSEPD) Department, R.S. Gopalan, issued a letter to DSSOs, emphasizing the need for doorstep delivery due to the physical limitations of many beneficiaries.
Additionally, during the ongoing ‘Bikash Rath’ outreach programme from June 12 to 19, district officials have been asked to ensure that all MBPY beneficiaries receive their pensions at home.
The MBPY is a flagship welfare scheme of the Odisha government, aimed at supporting the elderly, widows, persons with disabilities, and orphaned children affected by COVID-19. The move to deliver pensions at home is seen as a step toward making welfare schemes more accessible and inclusive.
