The decision aims to provide improved urban infrastructure, streamlined civic services, and high-quality amenities to match the rising demands of pilgrims and visitors to the sacred town of Shrikhetra.
As part of a broader cultural and infrastructural development vision, the government has also proposed the establishment of a world-class Jagannath Museum in Puri. This facility will serve as a global centre for the preservation and presentation of Jagannath culture, traditions, and rituals.
Upcoming Cultural and Research Facilities:
- A Jagannath Research Centre dedicated to scholarly work on the Jagannath tradition and Odia heritage.
- A modern library housing ancient manuscripts, texts, and research materials.
- A state-of-the-art auditorium for cultural programs and educational events.
- An open-air theatre to showcase classical and folk performances linked to Jagannath culture.
These developments reflect the state’s commitment to safeguarding Odia identity while enhancing the global visibility of Jagannath consciousness. The proposed initiatives are expected to boost spiritual tourism, create knowledge-sharing opportunities, and strengthen the cultural legacy of Puri as one of India’s most revered pilgrimage sites.
