Bhubaneswar, May 22 – Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has directed officials to include widowed girls under the Mukhyamantri Kanya Vivah Yojana (MKVY), a new state-sponsored marriage assistance scheme set to be implemented soon.
At a meeting held at Lok Seva Bhawan, the Chief Minister emphasized that the scheme would provide crucial support to financially weak and underprivileged families, helping them bear the cost of their daughters’ marriages. The inclusion of widowed girls is aimed at enhancing the scheme’s social impact.
An allocation of ₹12 crore has been made for the scheme in the current financial year. The Chief Minister also instructed departments to facilitate government-sponsored wedding gifts and organize collective marriage ceremonies for beneficiaries.
Senior officials, including Chief Secretary Manoj Ahuja, Development Commissioner Anu Garg, and representatives from key departments such as Women and Child Development, Finance, and SC/ST Welfare, participated in the meeting to discuss swift implementation.
