Nabarangpur, 20th Aug 2025: For the past two days, Nabarangpur district has been experiencing continuous rainfall due to a low-pressure system. As a result, normal life has been badly disrupted. The rainfall has caused rivers and streams across the district to swell, leading to a rise in water levels.
Considering the situation, District Collector Dr. Maheshwar Swaim has issued an order to keep all schools and Anganwadi centres in the district closed today.
According to the District Emergency Office, the district recorded 281.2 mm of rainfall today. By 8 a.m., the Indravati reservoir had reached a water level of 634.860 meters. Similarly, the water level of the Indravati river has risen and is nearing the danger mark.
The Meteorological Department has forecast heavy to very heavy rainfall in the district over the next two days, accompanied by winds at speeds of up to 30 km per hour. Continuous rainfall for the past two days has left the people of the district deeply worried.
On the other hand, Chandahandi block recorded 20 mm rainfall this afternoon, giving some relief to residents after a long dry spell. The highest rainfall in the district was recorded in Kosagumuda block (82.4 mm). Other blocks reported:
- Nabarangpur: 36 mm
- Nandahandi: 33 mm
- Tentulikhunti: 10 mm
- Papadahandi: 31 mm
- Dabugam: 9 mm
- Umerkote: 5.2 mm
- Raighar: 45 mm
- Jharigaon: 29.6 mm
After 8:30 a.m. today, rainfall intensity increased in all blocks. Daily wage earners, small traders, students, and residents of low-lying areas have been severely affected.
According to the District Emergency Office, all block administrations are fully prepared to handle any situation. As of now, no reports of damage have been received. However, compared to last year, the Indravati reservoir currently holds 0.88 meters more water.
