Sambalpur,13th Aug 2025: To prevent accidents, signal lights have been installed in Sambalpur city. According to traffic police, these lights were installed yesterday at the city’s major intersections — Jail Chowk and Lakshmitkij Chowk. In the next two to four days, signal lights will also be installed at Dhanupali Chowk, Mudipada Chowk, Church Chowk, and Remedy Chowk. Once the road and bridge work at Ainthapali is completed, signal lights will be installed there as well.
Additionally, these intersections will be monitored by CCTV cameras to keep an eye on reckless drivers who violate traffic rules such as riding bikes without helmets, carrying more than two passengers on one vehicle, or taking wrong routes. This step is aimed at reducing accidents in the city.
Reports say that traffic problems at all major intersections were worsening day by day. Due to lack of parking space, people were forced to park vehicles on the roadsides, worsening the situation. Reckless driving by irresponsible drivers further complicated the traffic conditions, especially during the busy morning hours around 9 am when heavy congestion made it difficult for people to cross roads, forcing them to wait for hours.
Even a slight negligence could lead to life-threatening accidents. Many people had been complaining about the lack of crowd control in these busy areas.
