Bhubaneswar, 25th Nov 2025: The Panchuka of Kartik month has begun. This year, devotees of meat (Amish lovers) are eagerly waiting for Chhadhkhai, the festival marking the end of fasting. However, Chhadhkhai falls on Thursday this year, so the festival will be celebrated on Friday.
During the festival, traders usually sell a large quantity of meat and related items. If business is good, profits can triple. For this Chhadhkhai, 450 to 500 quintals of goat meat is expected to arrive in Bhubaneswar by Wednesday. Since Chhadhkhai falls on Thursday, Friday will be the main day of the festival. This year, traders are aiming for a target business of ₹7 crore.
Even before the festival, traders have started preparing. Amish traders hope to achieve business worth ₹7 crore. Last year, in Bhubaneswar and Cuttack, the meat business exceeded ₹8 crore, out of which only ₹5 crore was sold in Bhubaneswar. This year, it is estimated that both cities together will generate ₹10 crore in business.
For Bhubaneswar, meat will be sourced from Kolkata, Haripur, Dashapalla, Baripada, Jashipur, and other locations. Around 2,000 tons of chicken (both desi and broiler) will arrive. From Andhra Pradesh, Chilika, Bhushandapur, Paradip, Balasore, and Bhadrak, 20 to 25 fish trucks have been booked. Tomorrow, the price list will be finalized, according to the Nikhil Odisha Amish Vyavsayi Mahasangh.
