Umerkote Fertilizer Stock Verified During Collector’s Visit

Umerkote, 6th Sept 2025: During his visit to Umerkote, Nabarangpur District Collector Dr. Maheswar Swain made surprise inspections of fertilizer godowns in the area. He visited the godowns of JIT Fertilizer near Umerkote LAMP and Siddhi Binayak Traders near Dadiguda, close to Umerkote town.

During the inspection, he checked the stock of fertilizers and thoroughly examined all related documents and registers. The District Collector reportedly identified several irregularities during the inspection.

Umerkote, being a major agricultural hub of Nabarangpur, often faces a shortage of fertilizers like urea and other nutrients, especially during the farming season. Farmers, frustrated over unavailability, have resorted to road blockades and protests in the past.

The Collector was already aware of complaints that black marketeers have been selling fertilizers at inflated prices, and that fertilizers are being brought in from neighboring Chhattisgarh to be sold illegally at high rates — exploiting the local farmers.

Dr. Swain assured that currently there is sufficient fertilizer stock available in Umerkote, and farmers need not panic. He informed that fertilizers are now available at LAMPs and registered dealers, and farmers should avoid black market channels.

He further directed the departmental officers to crack down on black marketing and ensure timely and fair distribution of fertilizers to farmers.

Accompanying the Collector during the inspection were:

Santosh Kumar Nayak – Agriculture Officer, Umerkote Block

Rashmi Kant Sahu – Agriculture Officer, Raighar Block

Nihar Nayak – Additional District Agriculture Officer

This move by the District Collector has reportedly created panic among black market traders, who now fear strict legal action.
