Nabarangpur, Feb, 19: On the death anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, the telefilm “Mo Matira Rakta Tirtha” based on the Papadahandi firing incident was telecast live on Doordarshan.
The screening was formally inaugurated at Shastri Bhavan in Nabarangpur by District Collector Dr. Maheshwar Swain as the chief guest. More than 200 descendants of freedom fighters and martyrs’ families participated in the live telecast event.
Among those present were municipal and departmental officials and several distinguished local personalities, including the Nabarangpur Municipal Executive Officer Dr. Ashok Kumar Kanth, Superintending Engineer of the Works Department Kshiradhar Kandhapani, Dream India chief Pankaj Sipa, and many other invited guests and community members.
It is noteworthy that during the 1942 Quit India Movement, 19 tribal youths were martyred in the Papadahandi firing incident. A martyr memorial pillar was later built at the site in 1980.
To preserve the memory of the incident, a book titled “Mo Matira Rakta Tirtha” written by Muna Tripathy was published in 2006. The work was later adapted into a stage play by theatre director Prakash Samantray. Based on this adaptation, the telefilm was produced by Doordarshan and filmed at various locations across the district using local artists.
