Cuttack,Aug 31 [UDN}:: The Odisha Government is placing strong emphasis on providing advanced and quality healthcare services to cancer patients. A special plan has been prepared for the development of infrastructure at the Acharya Harihar Post Graduate Institute of Cancer in Cuttack. Health and Family Welfare Minister Dr. Mukesh Mahaling said that necessary steps would be taken to further strengthen the institute’s services and ensure timely and advanced treatment for cancer patients.
Dr. Mahaling visited the Acharya Harihar Post Graduate Institute of Cancer on Tuesday and reviewed the healthcare and treatment facilities available at the premier cancer institute. During his visit, the Minister inspected various departments and took stock of the treatment being provided to patients, essential facilities, and the overall functioning of the hospital.
The Minister also interacted with patients and their attendants to understand their experiences and obtain feedback regarding the healthcare services being provided. He assured that the State Government would continue to extend necessary support and take appropriate measures for the overall development of the institute and to ensure better healthcare facilities for patients and their families.
Under the Mukhyamantri Cancer Care initiative, the State Government has included an additional 91 cancer treatment packages under the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB-PMJAY) and Gopabandhu Jana Arogya Yojana (GJAY) to expand access to cancer treatment across Odisha. In the recent budget, the government has also made a provision of ₹311 crore for providing free treatment.
Patients at the Acharya Harihar Institute are receiving healthcare services through several specialised departments, including Anaesthesiology, Gastroenterology, Gynaecologic Oncology, Medical Oncology, Medical Physics, Microbiology, Nuclear Medicine, Pathology, Plastic Surgery, Radio Diagnosis, Radiation Oncology and Surgical Oncology.
The institute also provides facilities for education and research, Niramaya and telemedicine, further strengthening its role as a major cancer-care and medical education centre.
During the Minister’s visit, Banki MLA Devi Ranjan Tripathy, Acharya Harihar Post Graduate Institute of Cancer Director Dr. Dipak Rautaray, and other senior officials were present.
