Baliguda, Sept 5 [UDN}:: On the occasion of the birth anniversary of the legendary Indian hockey player Major Dhyan Chand and National Sports Day, an exhibition football tournament was organized by the local Sub-Divisional Sports Association at the Biju Patnaik Mini Stadium in Baliguda.
Assistant Collector Sanjeev Kumar Rupamajhi, Rupak Kumar Kujur, Revenue Supervisor Bipin Kumar Pradhan, BDO Akshaya Kumar Mallik and others attended the event and formally inaugurated the tournament by taking the first shot.
The competition featured teams representing the administration, public representatives, the media, private organizations and senior football players from the area. The tournament was conducted in three stages.
In the first match, the Private Organizations XI defeated the Press XI by 3–0 goals. In the second match, the Administration XI defeated the Veterans XI by 1–0. In the final, the Administration XI defeated the Private Organizations XI by 9–0 goals to become champions.
On the occasion, seven outstanding sportspersons were felicitated for their achievements.
Association Vice-President Satyanarayan Padhi, Secretary Dr. Sushant Kumar Das, advisers Surendra Kumar Patra, Shibananda Patnaik, Surya Narayan Suar, Gangadhar Panda, Prashant Kumar Sahu, Srinivas Dora, Sujit Kumar Pal, Sameer Kumar Pattnaik, Ranjit Kumar Mohanty, Elias Digal, Milman Nayak and Sanjeev Kumar Behera, among others, were present and helped conduct the event.
