Authorities Discuss Heatwave Management and Water Scarcity at District Meeting

Nabarangpur, March 13:A district-level preparedness meeting on heatwave management and drinking water issues was held at the Mission Shakti Conference Hall under the chairmanship of Nabarangpur District Collector Dr. Maheshwar Swain.

The meeting focused on ensuring adequate drinking water supply during the summer season and discussing effective measures to tackle heatwave-related problems.

The Collector advised officials to undertake war-footing repairs of defunct tube wells across the district. He directed the Chief District Medical Officer and the District Social Welfare Officer to ensure adequate stock of ORS packets at every Anganwadi centre and school. He also emphasized the regular supply of safe drinking water.

The District Labour Officer was instructed to arrange special drinking water facilities at worksites. As per State Government guidelines, labourers should not be engaged in outdoor work between 11:00 AM and 3:30 PM due to the risk of heatstroke. Temporary shaded rest areas must be arranged during this period.

Discussions were also held regarding conducting classes in schools and colleges within the prescribed time limits as per government guidelines. The Regional Transport Officer was directed to ensure sufficient availability of safe drinking water and ORS packets in public transport vehicles and at bus stands.

Municipal authorities were instructed to repair tube wells on a priority basis and arrange drinking water supply through tankers wherever necessary.

To effectively manage heatstroke cases, it was decided to ensure adequate beds, air-conditioned rooms, and control rooms at Primary Health Centres (PHCs), Community Health Centres (CHCs), and the District Headquarters Hospital. The Executive Engineer of TPSODL was directed to ensure uninterrupted power supply to all major health institutions.
Officials were also instructed to organize water kiosks (Jal Chhatra) at crowded public places wherever required.
Additional District Magistrate (Revenue) Bishwajit Chandra Barman directed Block Development Officers to conduct similar preparedness meetings at the block level.
Among others present were Additional Chief Development Officer-cum-Executive Officer of Zilla Parishad Nabarangpur, Jadumani Nayak; District Public Health Officer Ajay Kumar Tripathy; Executive Engineers of the Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Department; District Information & Public Relations Officer Manoj Kumar Behera; Regional Transport Officer Jitendra Bhoi; District Panchayat Officer Padmanabha Tripathy; District Social Welfare Officer Dupodi Kahar; along with all Block Development Officers, Tehsildars, and other senior district-level officials.
The meeting concluded with a vote of thanks by District Project Officer Shekhar Pattnaik.
