Cyclone Arnab Damages Paddy Crops Across Nabarangpur

Nabarangpur,  Oct 31 (UDN): Cyclone Arnab has dealt a severe blow to farmers in Nabarangpur district, as harvested paddy lying in agricultural fields has been soaked by continuous rainfall, raising fears of significant crop losses.

With paddy harvesting underway across the district, the sudden spell of heavy rain has created serious difficulties for farmers. Distressing scenes were witnessed in Dabugaon, where farmers were seen wearing raincoats and struggling to collect their rain-soaked paddy from agricultural fields amid persistent rainfall.

The situation has become a major concern for the farming community, particularly for those who had invested heavily in cultivation by taking loans. Farmers fear that the prolonged exposure of harvested paddy to rain may affect its quality and cause substantial financial losses. If the crops are damaged, repaying agricultural loans could become extremely difficult for many farming families.

In view of the situation, local residents and intellectuals have urged the district administration to conduct an immediate assessment of crop damage and ensure adequate government compensation for affected farmers. They believe that timely financial assistance would provide much-needed relief and help farmers overcome the burden of outstanding loans.

Meanwhile, normal life in Nabarangpur district has also been severely disrupted over the past two days due to adverse weather conditions. Markets have witnessed a sharp decline in customer activity, while traders and shopkeepers are facing sluggish business. Continuous rainfall and unfavourable weather have made it difficult for people to step outside their homes.

Cyclone Arnab has not only disrupted daily activities but has also created uncertainty and anxiety among farmers, traders and the general public. Farmers are now looking towards the administration for a proper assessment of agricultural losses and timely financial assistance to overcome the crisis.
