Dumurimunda Health & Wellness Centre Honoured with State-Level First Prize for Delivering Quality Medical Services

Nabarangpur, April 06: The Ayushman Health and Wellness Centre at Dumurimunda in Raighar block of Nabarangpur district has won the first prize at the state level for its outstanding Kangaroo Mother Care (KMC) services. This initiative has brought significant positive changes in the lives of mothers and newborns.
The Dumurimunda Primary Health Centre, which operates in PPP mode, has now created a new identity in the state. It received this top recognition for its excellent performance in Kangaroo Mother Care services.
Kangaroo Mother Care involves direct skin-to-skin contact between the mother and the newborn. In this method, premature or low-birth-weight babies are kept close to the mother’s chest, which helps regulate body temperature, promote weight gain, and support healthy development.
According to gynecologist Dr. Surendra Nath Das, both infants and their families are increasingly accepting and benefiting from this innovative approach.
Since the introduction of Kangaroo Mother Care in 2020 at the Dumurimunda Primary Health Centre, around 700 newborn babies have been saved from life-threatening conditions.
In remote areas like Nabarangpur district, where access to advanced healthcare is limited, this low-cost, awareness-based method has proven to be a milestone in improving child health and survival.
