Electricity Enforcement Team Attacked During Anti-Theft Raid in Bhadrak; Several Injured

Bhadrak, June 22 (UDN): Tension prevailed in the Chandipur area under Bant police limits in Odisha’s Bhadrak district after members of an electricity department enforcement team were allegedly attacked during a raid against power theft, officials said on Sunday.

According to reports, the enforcement team had conducted a raid in the locality following specific information about illegal electricity usage through hook connections. Officials said the accused family had earlier been caught on two separate occasions for power theft and had also paid penalties.

During the latest inspection, when the team attempted to disconnect the alleged illegal connection, members of the family reportedly turned violent and attacked the officials. The enforcement personnel were allegedly assaulted with bamboo sticks and pelted with bricks and stones, leaving several employees injured.

The injured staff members were provided medical assistance, though the exact number of those hurt is yet to be officially confirmed.

Following the incident, the electricity department lodged a complaint with Bant police, and an investigation has been initiated.

Meanwhile, a video purportedly showing the attack has surfaced on social media, further intensifying tension in the area.

Police have deployed personnel to maintain law and order, and efforts are underway to identify and take action against those involved in the assault.
