Cuttack, June 18: : The Cancer Survivors’ Day was observed at the old auditorium of Sriram Chandra Bhanja (SCB) Medical College. The event aimed to bring smiles to the faces of cancer survivors who have fought and defeated a deadly disease like cancer. The programme was organised under the joint initiative of various organisations, including the Acharya Harihar Post Graduate Institute of Cancer (AHPGIC) and other associated bodies.
It was highlighted that with advancements in medical treatment, nearly 60 percent of cancer patients can recover if diagnosed and treated at an early stage. It was also mentioned that every year around 14 lakh cancer cases are detected, out of which nearly 7 lakh patients recover. Therefore, speakers emphasized that cancer should not be feared. Instead, people should seek proper medical consultation and undergo early treatment, which enables them to live normal and healthy lives.
During the programme, it was stated that cancer survivors can serve as a source of inspiration for other patients. On this occasion, cancer survivors as well as the doctors and nurses who worked tirelessly like “angels” in their recovery process were felicitated and honoured.
Various cultural and awareness activities were also conducted in the presence of guests and cancer survivors.
The programme was managed by Ms. Lily Jena, Founder and Chairperson of CRIA Foundation, while Professor Prashant Parida from AHPGIC explained the objective of the event. Special guest Dr. Pratibha Panda, Dean and Principal of SCB Medical College, spoke about how cancer treatment has become more manageable and less complex over time.
Other dignitaries present included Rotarian Jayashree Mohanty, Directors of AHPGIC Dr. Deepak Rautray and Dr. Raja Parija, Nursing Superintendent Basanti Lata Nayak of Acharya Harihar Cancer Institute, and Dr. Jitendra Jenamani, among others, who actively contributed to the success of the programme.
