Nabarangpur, Sept 28 [UDN}:: The first anniversary celebration of the Our Citizen of Nabarangpur group was marked by a unique and heartwarming initiative aimed at bringing joy and memorable experiences to children with disabilities.
As part of the anniversary programme, the youth members of the group organised a special outing for students of Asha Kiran Special School in Nabarangpur town. Instead of holding a conventional anniversary celebration, the organisers chose to fulfil a long-cherished dream of the students — travelling by train.
The students were taken to Jeypore Railway Station, from where they travelled by train to Koraput. For many of the children, the journey offered a new and exciting experience. The initiative was designed not merely as a recreational trip but also as an effort to ensure that children with disabilities get opportunities to enjoy experiences that are often difficult for them to access.
Following the train journey, the students and accompanying members visited Shabari Srikhetra in Koraput. Arrangements were also made for the participants to have prasad at the temple premises.
The programme was inaugurated in the presence of Nabarangpur BDO Dr Sunil Khora, Nabarangpur Municipality Executive Officer Ashok Kantha, District Social Security Officer Damayanti Nayak, and Block Social Security Officer A. Dhanurjaya Rao. The officials appreciated the initiative and said that programmes of this nature convey an important social message about inclusion, compassion and collective responsibility.
They praised the young members of Our Citizen of Nabarangpur for choosing a socially meaningful way to celebrate their organisation’s first anniversary.
Asha Kiran Special School principal Jagannath Behera, along with the school’s staff members, accompanied the students throughout the train journey and helped ensure their safety, discipline and proper care during the programme.
The initiative by the youth group has received considerable appreciation from intellectuals, citizens and various sections of society in Nabarangpur. The programme demonstrated how community groups can use special occasions to create happiness and inclusive experiences for children with disabilities rather than limiting celebrations to traditional festivities.
The train journey from Jeypore to Koraput, the visit to Shabari Srikhetra and the arrangements made for the students turned the first anniversary celebration of Our Citizen of Nabarangpur into a memorable and socially significant event.
