Five Athletes from Nabarangpur Selected for State Sports Hostels, Opening New Opportunities for Advanced Training and Competitive Sporting Careers

Umerkote, Aug 17 [UDN}:: Five young athletes from Nabarangpur district have been selected this year for admission to the Odisha Government’s Sports Hostels, where they will pursue their education up to Class 10 while receiving specialized sports training.

Among the five selected athletes, four are archers and one is an athlete. The selected students include Linkan Rautray, a Class IX student of Maa Pendrani High School, Umerkote, who has been selected for the Malkangiri Sports Hostel.

Similarly, four Class IX girl students from Jadinga Government High School under Raighar Block — Ganeshri Gond, Kaleshwari Gond, Pramila Santa and Shivani Gond — have been selected for admission to the Sundargarh Government Sports Hostel for archery training and education.

The five athletes earned selection after demonstrating strong performances at the block- and district-level sports trials. Following their success in the preliminary rounds, they participated in the state-level selection trials held at Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar, where they performed well and secured their places in the Sports Hostels.

This year, around 800 students from all 10 blocks of Nabarangpur district had applied for admission to the Sports Hostels. Selection was made through a competitive process involving different levels of trials.

The selected students will stay at the respective sports hostels while continuing their formal education and receiving specialized coaching and training in their respective sporting disciplines. The entire cost of their education, accommodation, training and other related facilities is borne by the Odisha State Government.

The achievement of the four selected archery students from Jadinga Government High School was celebrated by the school authorities, who felicitated the young athletes for their outstanding performance and selection.

The felicitation programme was attended by Block Welfare Officer Shyam Sundar Dharua, CRCC Dayamaya Padhi, Headmaster Roop Singh Gond, Physical Education Teacher Sapan Bairagi, Assistant Teachers Apanda Rani Das, Sarada Prasanna Sahu, Nabakishore Gond, Ashok Kumar Gond, Amulya Mishra and Saubhagya Ranjan Das, along with other teaching and non-teaching staff.

The selection of these five young athletes has brought pride to Nabarangpur district and is expected to provide them with an excellent opportunity to develop their sporting talents while continuing their academic education under the state’s sports hostel programme.
