Government Reaffirms Commitment to Safer Roads, Aiming to Provide Convenient and Comfortable Travel for Everyone from Heavy Vehicle Drivers to Two-Wheeler Riders

Bhubaneswar,  Aug 10 [UDN}:Inspired by the Hon’ble Prime Minister’s ‘Apna Ghar’ concept, the State Government is set to implement an integrated Way-Side Amenity Centre model that will provide travelers with the comfort, safety, and welcoming atmosphere of a home while on the move.
In accordance with the provisions of the State Highway Authority Act, these Way-Side Amenity Centres will be developed at intervals of approximately 50 kilometres. The initiative will not be limited to national highways but will also be implemented in phases along expressways, state highways, and major district roads, ensuring widespread access to quality roadside facilities across the state.
Around 50 Way-Side Amenity Centres established in the past are currently lying non-functional. The government plans to revive and modernize these existing facilities while simultaneously developing new centres to expand the network.
Each Way-Side Amenity Centre will be equipped with a comprehensive range of modern facilities, including EV charging stations, petrol pumps, food courts, rest lounges, retiring rooms, children’s play areas, clean and hygienic toilets, safe drinking water, and other essential amenities. These facilities are designed to provide travelers with a complete, comfortable, and world-class roadside service experience.
To ensure the successful implementation of this ambitious project, the State Government will soon initiate the process of signing Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) with leading oil marketing companies, including HPCL, IOCL, and BPCL. This collaborative initiative is expected to play a significant role in transforming the state’s road transport infrastructure by making travel safer, more convenient, more comfortable, and aligned with international standards, marking a major milestone in the development of modern highway infrastructure.
