Heavy Rain Alert Across Odisha: Red Warning for Nabarangapur, Orange Alert in Six Districts

Bhubaneswar, Sept. 24 (UDN): Rainfall activity intensified across Odisha on Thursday as the state continued to feel the impact of the deep depression that crossed the Andhra Pradesh coast near Kalingapatnam.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast intense rainfall over several parts of Odisha and issued a red warning for Nabarangapur, indicating the possibility of extremely heavy rain. The weather system is expected to continue influencing the state during the day.

Six districts — Bargarh, Nuapada, Balangir, Kalahandi, Koraput and Malkangiri — have been placed under an orange warning for heavy to very heavy rainfall.

A yellow warning has also been issued for Balasore, Sambalpur, Jharsuguda, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Subarnapur, Boudh, Kandhamal and Rayagada, with heavy rainfall likely at isolated locations.

Southern, Western Odisha Under Watch

Several parts of southern Odisha have already received persistent rainfall, while intermittent showers have been reported in coastal and western districts.

The weather system is expected to maintain its influence over the state, with the IMD’s Odisha forecast indicating extremely heavy rainfall on September 24, followed by very heavy rainfall warnings for September 25 and 26.

The concentration of heavy rainfall over southern and western districts could lead to waterlogging, localised flooding and disruption to normal activities, particularly in low-lying and vulnerable areas.

Authorities Urged to Remain Vigilant

With rainfall expected to continue, residents in districts under red and orange warnings have been advised to remain alert and follow updates issued by the IMD and local authorities.

The weather department is continuing to monitor the movement and weakening of the deep depression as it travels further inland.

The IMD has urged people in affected areas to exercise caution, particularly during periods of intense rainfall, and to follow official advisories.
